Asha Sharma) direction, the drill was coordinated more efficiently, emphasizing its importance and ensuring that everyone took it seriously. Students observed firsthand how seriously the Principal ma’am and The Headmistress ma’am took the mock drill and set a positive example for them to follow.

The mock drill team consists of trained individuals responsible for planning, organizing, and executing the drill effectively. In team members included Ishwar Singh (Rtd C.D.I.), Yogesh Rao (Clerk), Balvinder Singh (Computer Operator), Dharmendra  (H.G.), Surender(H.G.), Rajbir( H.I.)

The main aim of the drill was to enhance awareness and understanding of various types of disasters, equip the students with knowledge of protective measures, rescue methods, and first aid techniques to mitigate the impact of disasters, practice emergency response procedures, including evacuation protocols and the use of firefighting equipment and foster a culture of preparedness and resilience within the school community to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals in the event of a real disaster.

Students understood that Disaster management is crucial for preparedness and response to unforeseen events that can cause harm to individuals and communities.  They learned that a disaster is a sudden, calamitous event that causes significant disruption, destruction, and distress, often resulting in loss of life, property damage, and environmental impact.

They came to know that there are two types of disasters: Natural Disasters, such as earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and tsunamis, which occur due to natural processes, and Man-Made Disasters, caused by human activities, such as industrial accidents, terrorism, chemical spills, and nuclear incidents.

The mock drill team educated them about earthquake causes, protection, and rescue methods, like Drop, Cover, and Hold On. During an earthquake, individuals were advised to drop to the ground, take cover under sturdy furniture, and hold on until the shaking stops. They understood that together they can make a difference and were told about evacuation plans and how to form rescue teams.

They understood the importance of First Aid, as basic first aid skills are essential for providing immediate assistance to injured individuals during disasters. This includes treating wounds, performing CPR, and stabilizing injured persons until professional medical help arrives.

The mock drill raised awareness about the potential danger of fires and the importance of fire safety. Fires can result from various sources such as electrical faults, gas leaks, or human negligence. It’s crucial to understand different types of fires, including Class A (ordinary combustibles), Class B (flammable liquids), and Class C (electrical fires), and how to extinguish them safely.

They understood fire prevention measures, as schools should have fire prevention measures in place, including fire alarms, smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers. Students and staff were trained on emergency evacuation procedures, including safe routes and assembly points. Adequate firefighting equipment should be available, and individuals should be trained in its usage.

During the mock drill, practical demonstrations and training sessions were conducted to educate students and staff on disaster preparedness and response techniques. This included hands-on practice of evacuation procedures, various methods to rescue people, first aid simulations, and firefighting equipment demonstrations.

The mock drill at S.D. Adarsh Vidyalaya served as an effective means of enhancing awareness and preparedness for various types of disasters. By equipping students and staff with the necessary knowledge and skills, the school was better prepared to respond to emergencies and ensure the safety and well-being of everyone on campus. It is truly said, “Field trips are powerful learning experiences.”

Visits are always beautiful and fill a person’s mind with joy and enthusiasm. But if that visit is educational, learning based, that provides us invaluable knowledge as well. Last week, our school also arranged such a visit for the classes III to V. We went to Heritage Transport Museum located in Manesar, Gurugram.

The students were divided into groups and a teacher was allotted to each group to help the students gain a better perspective about the exhibits. The students were taken on a tour of museum that showcased the evolution of transportation in India and the history of human transportation. The Heritage Transport Museum is India’s Major Museum dealing with the history of human transportation. Students showed keen interest in learning about the vintage cars like 1930 Rolls Royce Phantom II, a 1924 Ford Model T, a 1950 Buick Super Convertible and the vehicles used during the wars by Indian Army. Apart from the vehicles, the students learnt about the evolution of road, rail and air transportation in India. They were fascinated towards the section of the Indian Postal Service which included old post boxes, stamps and other postal artifacts.

On the whole, the trip was uniquely educational experience for the students and offered them a much required glimpse into the world of historical India and its impact on the present.
